On August 27 we held a Conference entitled “Memorial Candles in Our Hands: The Advantages Polish Scholarship and Museum Studies on the Commemoration of Holocaust Sites Have Brought for Polish – Jewish Relations” within the framework of the Past / Future Review, which took place on August 27 – 29. The Conference had an international rapport, with participants from several countries attending in person or online..
Podczas trwającego w dniach 27-29 sierpnia cyklu wydarzeń Przegląd Przeszłość / Przyszłość w dniu 27 sierpnia odbyła się konferencja naukowa o międzynarodowym zasięgu „Znicze w naszych dłoniach. Pozytywne aspekty wpływu dorobku naukowego i muzealniczego w Polsce, w sferze zachowania miejsc pamięci Holokaustu, na relacje polsko-żydowskie”.
The Conference was chaired by Dr. Marcin Owsiński of the Stutthof Museum, and the speakers were Professor Sebastian Piątkowski of the Radom branch of the Polish Institute of National Remembrance, Dr. Aleksandra Namysło of the Katowice branch of the Polish Institute of National Remembrance, and Dr. Piotr Setkiewicz of the Auschwitz–Birkenau Museum. The panelists presented their papers and took part in the discussion that followed, conducting a review and a synopsis of the Polish initiatives in research and museum studies to commemorate the Holocaust, and comparing the Polish achievements in this field with what has been done in other countries to commemorate and pay due tribute to the Holocaust of the Jewish People. In addition, they considered the impact these activities have had on the awareness of Polish and Israeli citizens, and hence also on the current and prospective relations of these two countries. The Conference was addressed to Polish and American recipients, who had the opportunity to observe the Conference on the internet thanks to the support given us by our international partners.

W sesji, której przewodniczył dr Marcin Owsiński (Muzeum Stutthof), udział wzięli dr hab. Sebastian Piątkowski (IPN Radom), dr Aleksandra Namysło (IPN Katowice) oraz dr Piotr Setkiewicz (Muzeum Auschwitz-Birkenau). Uczestnicy obrad w zaprezentowanych przez siebie referatach oraz podczas późniejszej dyskusji dokonali przeglądu oraz podsumowania polskich inicjatyw, mających na celu upamiętnienie Holokaustu w wymiarze badawczym i muzealniczym. W ich wypowiedziach nie zabrakło elementów porównania Polski z innymi krajami na polu godnego uwiecznienia Zagłady Żydów oraz refleksji na temat wpływu tych działań na świadomość obywateli Polski i Izraela, a tym samym na współczesne i przyszłe relacje między obydwoma państwami. Konferencja ta była skierowana do rodzimych oraz amerykańskich odbiorców, którzy dzięki wsparciu partnerów zagranicznych mieli możliwość obserwowania obrad za pośrednictwem Internetu.
